After hours of hard work, the first major component of our aerodynamic package is now completed. The undertray design focused on efficiently adding extra strength to the critical areas and achieved a weight of 3.1kg. This was made possible with the involvement of one of our major sponsors, Accurate CNC, who did the CNC routing of the MDF templates for the undertray mould!

Today we picked up all of our waterjet cut suspension parts. Now that semester has started, the university machines have months of work booked and it was looking like we would have to delay our build date. However, WASCA Engineering took on the task and got us back on track. It cannot be overstated how much difference it makes working with professional sponsors like WASCA who are able to get the job done properly and quickly. Chris gave us a tour of their well-equipped facilities and showed us how they can take parts like ours from a prototype or small run into medium or large scale production. It’s always confidence building to see Australian manufacturing doing well, especially a family owned business!
Also a big thankyou to Australian steel who provided us with the material. Their high strength structural steel has over twice the yield strength of standard steel which has allowed us to use less material and build lighter components!
