Through the Formula SAE competition organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia, Team Swinburne offers engineering and business students a major project designing, building, marketing and racing a small, open-wheel racecar. Students work together on a complex engineering project in a collegiate, team environment while managing a budget, commercial relationships, compliance issues and a hard deadline.

Building an FSAE car is a lot of work. It takes a whole team of dedicated students putting in ridiculous hours for a whole year to get these cars designed, built, and tested in time for competition each year. Luckily when it gets tough we can take some time out as a team and visit our sponsor Hi Voltage Karts to blow off some steam throwing their all electric go karts round the track.
Be sure to check out Hi Voltage Karts next time your looking for an electrifying time! Whether a casual racer or you're keen on joining their league racing or team endurance rounds, be sure to give Hi Voltage a call on 1300 HIVOLTAGE(448 658) or check out their website at; www.hivoltagekarts.com.au ... Why we always trust Holinger Engineering with our gears, half shafts and tripods. So here’s a different kind of post from us……
Here we have an RD6-SS gearbox, fitted with an adaptor that would allow it to bolt up to a typical Super-T10 style aftermarket bellhousing. It also has a 100mm spacer that moves it back in the chassis to make the lever more accessible for the driver.
This one is on our packing bench, about to be shipped to a nearby country. We’ve been selling a lot of these in this exact spec lately, to replace a competitor’s gearbox that was used in a Race Series that is now sadly defunct. From what we’re told the horribly inferior gearbox made by our so-called competitor was one of the reasons the series simply didn’t work as the reliability was so terrible. The cars however are fundamentally good and are now racing in Endurance Events. As the original gearboxes are so terrible we have been providing this Gearbox package to these teams so the cars can live on and run how they always should have.
We were given the opportunity to quote on providing gearboxes to this series at the start and were told we were too expensive. The organiser believed all they were told by our competitor and it was nothing short of a disaster…..
So here we are now a few years later fixing these cars up so they can still run. It’s a shame we weren’t able to supply them to the cars when they were new, all over what ended being a poor decision by the original organisers. We can assure you however that by the time the series was over, the teams had spent far more than they would have with us with this other company on fixing up the disastrous gearboxes. That is certainly a source of frustration for many, us included.
This is the first in a series of posts we want to put together over the coming weeks. We want people to realise that whilst were expensive, it’s because our product is expensive to produce. This photo is taken from inside our workshop and we’ll be offering more up like this, not the glossy mag style photos, but real photos. Pictures of quality raw-materials and quality tools and machines inside OUR factory making Holinger parts.
We’re not just a flashy website and brochure promising the world. Many of our competitors are these days sadly….
